Traditional values meet modern technology

  • Family-owned and run
  • Established 1946
  • Ambient food specialist
  • Service-focused
  • Supported by best-of-breed technology and systems
  • Over 650 permanent staff

We’ve always specialised in ambient grocery and FMCG storage and distribution: over the years our experience has led us to become one of the UK’s leading consolidators in the sector.  We deliver high service standards and significant savings to manufacturers, importers and distributors.

Lenham values the continuity and stability of our heritage as a family business.  We set great store by long-term, trusted relationships with our customers and employees, often nurtured over many years.  Our traditional values work well in combination with a focus on innovation.  We continue to build on our enduring reputation for excellent service, which means continually assessing and introducing new technologies and approaches that help us help our customers even better.

We’re a medium sized business with major customers, operating in a large and competitive market place.  We hold our own against far bigger logistics names because of our specialist knowledge and focus, excellent delivery and concentration on customer relationships.

It’s a belief, not a slogan

Every client has one point of contact for their entire service.  For large contract customers, there is a dedicated client management team.

Outstanding service and customer care are at the heart of our values, from the Board downwards.  We believe in doing right by people, delivering proactive customer service while operating industry-leading processes and technology.  When we recruit, we look for people with a service-oriented attitude and a focus on customers.  This has stood our business in good stead for over 70 years and helped us grow steadily while retaining our loyal customers.

  • A personalised approach
  • Working in partnership with customers
  • Fostering long term relationships
  • Dedicated client management

Important & Necessary

We employ a full time Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner (CMIOSH) as Group Health and Safety Manager to ensure that we meet and exceed all the relevant industry standards.  We are fully compliant with all transport and distribution directives.  We hold regular meetings with staff to encourage communication about improvements and issues and actively solicit feedback to support continuous improvement.

The Lenham Health & Safety package is independently approved by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), and is mandatory  for all new employees regardless of which area they will be working in – office, warehouse, driving or management.  All temporary staff also undertake a mandatory induction package relating to their area of work.

We are also fully accredited to undertake the IOSH Managing Safely 4-day course, which is a mandatory requirement for all our management team, followed by a mandatory 3-yearly refresher course to ensure that high standards are maintained.

We are also working towards the internationally recognised OHSAS 18001 standard, as we strive for continual improvement and zero accidents.

Not just responsible, accountable

Our contribution to reducing our carbon footprint and environmental impact includes:

  • 15 and 7.5 tonne hybrid vehicles
  • Urban dual fuel articulated vehicles
  • Stop/start technology and auto idle shutdown
  • Active aero body styling
  • Active warehouse lighting
  • Long length and double deck trailers
  • Euro 6 specification fleet
  • Commercial vehicles limited to 52 mph
  • Food waste used in anaerobic digestion

We are committed to investing in environmentally friendly technologies and processes for commercial as well as legislative reasons.  There are savings to be made by improving fuel efficiency and introducing greener approaches and equipment.  We review, test and invest to benefit our customers, enhance our reputation and minimise our environmental impact.

We place strong emphasis on site recycling, bringing back packaging from delivery drops to recycle on our premises using industrial balers.  We put in place and meet stringent targets.  One ongoing objective is to reduce our carbon footprint by 2% year on year.

It’s a good job we’re recruiting

  • Committed to customer service?
  • Passionate about quality?
  • Keen to learn, develop and contribute?
  • Want to be part of a loyal, valued team?

Our people are exceptionally important to us.  We depend on them to meet our excellent quality standards.  So when we recruit, we look for team members who share our commitment to customer service and care about the quality of every aspect of their work.

At Lenham we treat each other with respect.  We recognise individual and team achievements and reward the contribution of our valued staff with a good wage and other incentives.

We are a family business and some of our warehouse staff and drivers have been with us for years, even through generations!  We are very proud of their loyalty to us.  All of our staff represent the Lenham company name as well as the brand names of our customers, so professional, courteous, skilled and conscientious people are very important to our business.

If you think you’d be a good fit in our team, we welcome CVs and cover letters from individuals, though not from agencies.  If we don’t have a vacancy at this time, we will keep your information on file in case an opportunity comes up.
